21 Code of Federal Regulations - protecting and promoting your health

Every country consists of its various bye-laws, rules and regulations which further helps in the smooth governing of the affairs of the country. These laws, rules as well as regulations are made for the growth of the country as well as its people. Without these rules and regulation the management of the country becomes zero which results in various discrepancies in the working and management of its affairs. These rules and regulations are made by various executive authorities of the government in different fields.

One of such rules and regulations made by the executive department and agencies of the Federal Government of the United States of America is the Code of Federal Regulations. This CFR is nothing but a codification of the common, particular as well as permanent rules published in the Federal register of the country by the executive authorities and agencies.  Each volume of the CFR is duly revised each year.

The CFR is divided into various titles. One such title, the title number 21 has been reserved for all the rules and laws of the Food and Drug administration of the country. CFR 21 contains every minute detail about the rules and laws that have been made in regard to the administration of food and drug in the country. The title 21 Code of Federal Regulations lays down various rules and laws made by the authorities in regard to selling, preservation as well as consumption of food and drugs in the country.

The title 21 of the CFR is basically divided into three main chapters :

• Chapter 1 - Food and Drug Administration.

• Chapter 2 - Drug Enforcement Administration.

• Chapter 3 - Office of National Drug Control Policy.

The Chapter 1 of title 21 of CFR extends from Part 1 to 1299 and the regulatory entity for this chapter is the Food and Drug Administration, Department of Health and Human Services. Most of the regulations of this chapter are based on the Federal food, Drug as well as Cosmetic Act. There are various notable sections in the chapter that deal with rules and regulations pertaining to food. The series 100 deals with all the rules in regard to food. The series 200 to 300 deals with the rules in regard to pharmaceuticals. The series 500 are the rules for the animal feeds and animal medications. The series 700 is reserved for the rules on cosmetics.

Chapter 2 extends from Part 1300 to 1399 and is regulated by Drug Enforcement Administration, Department of Justice. It deals with the rules and regulations of all the controlled substances. It is also divided into drugs and chemicals and their study listed in five different schedules.

Chapter 3 extends from Part 1400 to 1499 and i regulated by Office of National Drug Control Policy. This chapter deals with all the government requirements for drug-free workplaces and thus keeps a check on the same. It contains public availability of information, mandatory declassification review and other requirements for drug-free workplaces.
