A Brief Idea on Pulse Generators Application

Pulse generator as the name signifies is an electronic circuit or a piece of electronic test equipment which is used to generate rectangular pulses. It allows controlling the pulse repetition rate, width; high and low voltage levels of the pulses as well as delaying with respect to an internal or external trigger. These pulse generators allow control over the rise and fall time of the pulses. These generators are known to generate output pulses having widths ranging from minutes down to under 1 picoseconds. These generators basically use digital techniques, analog techniques or a combination of both the techniques in order to form the output pulses. The pulse repetition rate as well as duration can be digitally controlled, but, the pulse amplitude and the rise and fall timings are basically determined by the pwm circuits in the output stage of the pulse generator. If correctly adjusted, pulse generators produce 50% duty cycle square wave. On the whole, these pulse generators are single channel providing delay, one frequency and output.

Uses/Application of Pulse generators

• It is used to drive devices such as lasers, modulators, resistive loads, intensifiers, optical components and switches.

• Its output can be used as the modulations signal for a signal generator.

• Its application is also in medical physics, chemistry and material science.

This generator is basically used as an internal source of signal to a circuit. It can also be used as an external source of a signal through the generation of constant or the maintained signal pulses. A signal being delivered by the generator is used to measure the amount of signal a device is receiving. And hence, it can use both analog and digital circuitry to generate the pulses. Ho, these pulse generators are used internally to power timed trigger device with pwm circuits.
