Different Types of 21 Codes Of Federal Regulations

21 code of federal regulations refers to the regulations within the United States governing food and drugs for the FDA (Food and Drug Administration), DEA (the Drug Enforcement Administration) and (ONDCP) the Office of National Drug Control Policy.

The 21 Code of Federal Regulations is a codification of the permanent and general rules published by the Executive agencies and departments of the Federal Government in the Federal Register. The CFR title 21 is reserved for rules of the FDA. Each CFR title or volume is revised once in a calendar year. This revised Title 21 is issued on April 1st approximately of each year and is later available here after several months.

21 code of federal regulations wad downloaded from the Government Printing office files and it contains the recent revision. The CFR can be searched for current revision and there are 3 types of searches:

1. Search by Section and Part Number- Enter the complete number in the format and click on Search Regulations. On entering a Part and Section Number that is not a part of the current revision of Title 21, you get a link that allows you to search at GPO for earlier revisions.

2. Choose CFR Part Number- Using the drop down, choose one of the CFR Part Numbers and select Search Regulations. You will get results containing a list of all of the Subparts for the selected Part Number. Then, choose a Subpart to receive the subpart full text. You may obtain the entire Part Number of the text by choosing the Part link appearing on the results page top. This search may be combined with the Full Text Search.

3. Full Text Search - You may enter exact phrase or a single word or multiple words connected by ‘AND’. On entering an exact phrase, you get items that are adjacent to each other such that they can be retrieved. Entering multiple words with AND, means the retrieved items will contain your search words. You may look for "Full Text Search" or the "Select a CFR Part Number" search and restrict your retrieval to a particular CFR Part Number. The search for Full Text uses the Verity Search engine, thus it does not include variations or allow usage of symbols such as hyphens or slashes. If expected results are not obtained, try variations with your initial search.
