What is Sleep Regression?

Sleep regression is very tired and every parent wants to avoid this experience. This becomes a big fear. This is even more frustrating because your child has completed sleep coaching and now things are gone off track. Basically a sleep regression is when your baby was previously sleeping well for a long period of time and then, all of a sudden, without any cause their sleep suddenly goes down. It continues from 2 to 6 weeks and often coincide with cognitive or developmental milestones. Commonly child can experience this at 6 weeks, 3-4 months, 6 months, 8-10 months, 12 months, 18 months and 2 years.

Don’t think so much about this

Don’t be panic about this. If your baby won't nap, just tell yourself this is a bad week. Everything will be in track from next week. As you take these positively, it’s easy to flip out. Just give a boost to yourself that you are also able to face this and also you win this challenge of parenthood.

Do What Works

Try to apply different things that your child enjoys. Give special care and play with him. As you know tiredness is the key for taking a proper nap. Your child may enjoy swinging. So do whatever that he loves to do. That helps him to fall asleep again.

Get Back on the Sleep Path

Sleep regression is temporary. So, give him time and take the path of sleeping again. This generally happens anywhere from a few days to a week. But if you face this for longer then you are in a trap of a classic regression. You have to wait for the time when he learns that by his own. You can also try to change that with some good planning, consistency and patience.
