Pulse Generator and PWM Circuit: A Device to Generate Rectangular Pulses
A pulse generator as the name implies is an electronic circuit that is used to generate rectangular pulses. This electrical device can be used as an internal source of signal to a circuit. As an external source of signal, it is used to a device through the generation of constant or maintained signal pulses. The role of pulse generator lies in delivering a signal and measuring the amount of signal that a device is receiving. Pulse generator can use both digital as well as analog circuitry in order to produce the pulses.
Pulse generators are competent of providing both high and low voltage pulses. Most of the pulse generators consists of a switch and a pulse limiter, but, in order to generate a longer pulse, a switch could also be fixed to a pulse extender. This creates an output pulse when triggered. These generators provide control over the pulse repetition rate, width and delay with respect to the internal or external trigger. On the whole, it provides the rise and fall time of the pulses. The output of the pulse generator can be brought in use for a signal generator.
Pulse Width Modulation or PWM circuit is a modulation technique geberally used to encode a message into the pulsating signal. The modulation is a digital technique that varies the amount of power being delivered to the electronic component. Just by adjusting the amount of power delivered, user can control the speed or brightness.
PWM circuit is a major part of the pulse generator and comprise basically of active electronic device that produces, releases and controls the impulse thereby providing a loop to return the current. The functional ability of this circuit is apprehended by charging the capacitors that leads to the build up of the voltage. Once, sufficient voltage gets released, the comparator gets activated. Its role is diversified into multiple types that include intensifiers, modulators, optical components, switches etc.
